About the AirViz Service
We provide the AirViz service for our customers and distributors. This service is based upon CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) in which we’ve created an easy to use interface where customers can use the power of CFD to validate the performance of their solution before purchase and installation. It’s a huge selling tool for MacroAir and one that we’ve optimized through Rescale’s platform.

Challenges
The difficulty with providing this service using traditional methods is that it takes time and money to model buildings, model obstructions (racking, equipment, etc.), place fans, and run simulations. We began exploring the possibility of developing a web application that would somehow submit data to a local server or a cloud server, model the data, and return the results to the web application for easy access. It was quite difficult to find a service that would do exactly what we needed.

Implementing Rescale
We selected Rescale because its platform is an easy-to-use, out of the box solution. With our new web application we can use the Rescale API to submit, run, and retrieve the results of AirViz jobs that our distributors create. The results show the estimated airflow in the modeled spaces based upon the fans selected and their placement in the modeled spaces. There was nothing else that we found that would have been so easy to implement.

Looking at the above legend on the left hand side of the results, we can see how well our fans are covering a particular space in terms of airflow velocity. Purple is faster moving air and light green is slower moving air. The top-down view shows the airflow at 3 feet above the ground, which is the space that humans typically occupy and thus the most important space for determining if those fans are positively impacting the given space. Using the Rescale platform allows us to see how well our products perform in various circumstances.

The Value
The real benefit that Rescale provided was to be able to use the API to integrate our web application. Users draw out the dimensions of their space and place fans with OpenFOAM and ParaView, where the fan’s airflow is simulated in the space with the provided dimensions. Rescale has allowed us to automate our airflow simulations, which brings us from manually building out simulations on a local computer to putting the tools in the hands of our distributors to be able to easily do it on their own. This acceleration and increased efficiency gets these results to potential customers faster to see how well the fans will work in their space. This leads to sales conversions and more revenue for the company.

Working with Rescale’s platform has saved our team time and money. The less that we build out the programming in our web application and on the backend in OpenFOAM and ParaView, the more of our engineering team’s time and money we save and can allocate to more important projects.

Investment led by TransLink Capital confirms enterprise adoption of Rescale’s cloud HPC platform and global expansion.

San Francisco, CA, June 16, 2016 — Rescale, the leader in cloud HPC, secures $14 million in Series A funding led by TransLink Capital with participation from Microsoft Ventures, Jump Capital, ITOCHU Technology Ventures, Two Roads Group, and Data Collective. San Francisco, CA – As Rescale continues its support and development of those at the cutting edge of motorsport, ambassador Alexander Rossi has been making the headlines around the globe.  On Sunday May 29, the Californian race car driver won the prestigious 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, writing his name in the history book and taking taking his first Verizon IndyCar Series win in spectacular style.  Starting from the 11th position on the grid, the American won the iconic race in front of a sold-out audience, driving the No. 98 NAPA AUTO PARTS / Curb Honda for the Andretti Autosport team, and becoming the first rookie to win the prestigious race in 15 years.  The 200-lap race marked a new chapter for Alexander’s open-wheel story, with the driver now an impressive 5th in the overall 2016 IndyCar Series Championship and fighting for the season title, as well as fulfilling Official Reserve Driver duties for the Manor Racing Formula 1 team, partners of Rescale.

In the No. 98 NAPA Auto Parts/Curb Honda, Alexander took the lead on the 197th of 200 laps on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval when teammate Muñoz stopped for fuel and it was a race of precision driving to the finish.  Running dangerously close to empty after stretching his 18.5 gallons of ethanol for 36 laps, Alexander all but coasted the final lap with the team cheering him on through the radio.  Alexander had set the fastest lap of the race with an average speed of 225.228mph at one point, however the Californian slowed his pace dramatically for his final four laps.  His last lap averaged 179.784 mph, nearly 40 mph slower than Muñoz’s final circuit, but due to the precision perfect timing and careful management he still had enough momentum to take the checkered flag across the famous yard of bricks by the largest margin of victory since the 1996 race.  Alexander became the 70th winner in race history and is the 103rd face on the famed Borg-Warner Trophy.

As the season unfolds, the highly regarded American Driver will continue to divide his time between battling it out for the 2016 IndyCar Series Championship – where he now sits fifth in the overall rankings – and working with Manor Racing Formula 1 team, attending races throughout the season.  In 2015 Alexander finished the latter half of the year as the Official Driver for the Formula 1 team, racing in Singapore, Japan, Austin, Mexico and Brazil, and it is an environment he knows very well.  With his experience both on track and in various teams’ simulators through the years, Alexander brings a wealth of knowledge to all areas of motorsport, and has a clear focus on what’s needed to maximize potential and achieve results.
